I finally did it!! I have been wanting to paint my piano black for a long time and I finally just did it.
And. I. LOVE. It.

Go ahead, say it. It looks horrible, I know. And when I see a picture of it, it's even worse. (And what was I thinking with those pictures sitting on top of it?!)
So Wednesday, I sanded it all down (which only took me minutes thanks to my husband's power sander) and it surprisingly didn't take me long to paint it. I used a satin finish of black Behr (which is my favorite 'cheap' brand of paint from Home Depot). And while I was working on this project, I had my 2 and 1 year old playing in the same room and I was caring for my h1n1-infected husband. So..... here are the after pictures:
Isn't it GORGEOUS?! It looks brand-spankin new, doesn't it? Mr. C-A is going to build me a different rack (you know, where the music sets) eventually because I hate the one that's on there now, even with it painted. And oh how I wish our floors were refinished.... They make me cringe everytime I see them in a picture. One project at a time, I guess. What d'ya think?!
I'm linking up to today's creative blog, transformation party, ASPTL, frugal friday, creative cats , furniture feature friday, and metamorphisis monday. Wow, that's a lot of em :)
And to answer some of your questions: I didn't prime it, I used a roller and my purdy brush, and I do play (but not all that great!)
You did an awesome JOB! I bet you maybe able to start making some money doing this!
ReplyDeletedid you use a brush or spray?
Wow that looks amazing! It looks like it was always black and I love the bench. Did you reupholster the top? I am always waiting for my kids to go to school and my toddler to take a nap before I work on projects, and my projects never get done as a result. Love that you just did it with all of the chaos.
ReplyDeleteVery classy! It looks like you've posted it to several link parties already, but you should link up to Furniture Feature Friday over at my blog as well. We love a good furniture makeover.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Isn't it amazing what a transformation paint can make?!
ReplyDeleteWow! That looks awesome!!! Black paint makes anything look good in my opinion! Do you play?
ReplyDeleteOh so pretty! I've been wanted to paint my old worn out piano for some time now...I just can't talk myself into starting such a daunting task!

ReplyDeleteWow! I have an ugly piano I want to paint black also but have been afraid to tackle it. Did you prime at all? Did you use a roller? Amazing!
ReplyDeleteFor me a piano is the the marathon of painting projects. Something that I've always wanted to try, but it scares me. It looks fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks *fantastic* black! Great makeover!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this. I'm helping a friend redecorate and she has a huge piano I'd like to talk her into painting. Maybe this will encourage her.
ReplyDeleteOk - I cringe everytime I hear of someone painting a piano - but you did it justice! Thank you for improving your piano, yet keeping it classy! I HATE it when people paint it red! I don't care how much it matches your decor, it is disrespectful! Great job!
ReplyDeleteI just love what black paint does for furniture. Looks great.
